My
kids used to have a happy life, without
bothering much about the school, but unfortunately
for them, I'm reading BLOGS!
I like how Carla
(Sims 2) ties the grades her students
will get at Uni to the level of job they'll
get, and I like how Ani
(Sims 3) imagines an uni system, without
uni, so I thought I'd try to elaborate something
for my town.
First, I'm using Twallan's
Nraas Careers mod, with the
Data
Schools and Part-time job modules.
This mod allows the teens to go to school
in another rabbit hole than the town school,
and to focus on some specific topics. For
example, the Arts School will be located
in the movie theater rabbit hole, and will
focus on artistic matters, the school of
economy will be located in the business
rabbit hole, etc...
So, I've built an university in which I
have put all the rugs rabbit-holes (one
per room), and I'll consider these rabbit-holes
as classrooms. The teens who want to go
to the School of Economy won't go to my
Business building, but to University. I've
also added there a school rabbit hole for
after-school programs. Adults still go to
work in their usual rabbit holes and aren't
affected by this.
As I wanted to have a "real" Arts
school, I built a specific building for
it, and I've placed there two rabbit-holes
rugs: a movie-theater one, to take advantage
of the Nraas mod, and a school one, because
I thought it was logical to have artistic
after-school programs located there. My
School of Arts is under construction, but
you can have a
preview here.
ADDENDUM: I forgot to precise
that the University is labelled "No
visitors allowed". For now, it seems
to be enough to prevent any Sim to use the
rabbit holes if I haven't invited them to
do so.
If it's not enough, I'll use the Flyby
Filters Doors that will at
least prevent kids, adults and elders to
enter the building.
The School of Arts is labelled "Visitors
allowed" because I actually want any
Sim being able to practice any artistic
matter there. Problem is that there's a
movie theater rabbit hole and instruments.
With Ani's Open movie mod, it means that
any Sim who practices them makes a concert.
*lol* But it's OK. I

Primary
School
Kids from 5 to 11
Nothing special in primary
school, all the kids go to the same school.
My only rule there is that a kid that will
prank the school 3 times will be fired.
Then, he'll be or home-schooled or his parents
will have to get friends with the
headmaster, Monsieur Durkheim (I kind
of miss that the private school headmaster
from the Sims 2!).
School of Arts
Secondary
School
Teens from 11 to 18
The
secondary school is divided in two times.
The first 4 years are for general knowledge,
and are spent at the town school.
Then, at 15, the teens can get a specialization
and go to highschool/university.
The specialization is optional, as it requires
a certain level of skills.
The rule is the same as for primary school:
3 pranks, and the Sim is fired from school.

University
University
Young Adults from 18 to 21
Only
high-school students with at least a C as
final grade will be able to go to university.
Completely inspired by Ani, I'm using the
Nraas Part-Time jobs. I'll only use
these as university replacement, so I've edited
all the text strings (in french). It now says...

The university studies
can last 3 years.
Each level of the part-time job (3 levels)
is considered as a year, but there's no real
calendar: a second level can be reached in
6 months, and it can take 1 year 1/2 to reach
the 3rd level.
Students who will reach the level
3 of their studies will enter directly into
the job they have studied for at level 4.
Students who wil reach the level 2 will enter
at level 3.
Students who will stay at level 1 will enter
at level 2.
Students who want to change of career path
can or study one more year in their new specialization,
or begin their new career, but at a level
inferior to the one they'd reach with the
right specialization.
I've edited the Part-time jobs file so all
the part-times jobs are paid 35§
per hour, whatever the career track
and their level. I don't want my students
becoming rich, so they'll have to have
a class per week, those classes
at 400§ you can have at any
rabbit hole. That way, they spend most of
their money in their class, but still have
a little something left. If it's not challenging
enough, then I'll set the payrate at 25§,
and they won't even earn enough to pay their
class. We'll see...
Thanks to Ani's
NoFreePerfomance mod, my inactive students
won't get paid, so I don't have to worry about
the fact they won't have their class neither.
I coud have set the payrate at 0, but I wanted
my student to have classes for real. As the
university has most of the rabbit holes, they
will be able to have the classes there, where
they also part-time work, so it's pretty coherent
to me.
I have no specific major for the criminal
career, but any Sim who has a family member
in this career will be helped at reaching
a decent level of job.
